The Birth of the Blueberry Muffins

It all started one day in March 2005 in the town of Gore, South Island, New Zealand. A chance glimpse of an article in the local newspaper caught Cyndie's fancy and within a few days the Blueberry Muffins were 'born'! Cyndie, or Her Royal Hattiness Queen Cyndie, as she very soon became, needed a 'partner in crime' so to speak. At that point a very doubting henchman was recruited in Judy aka Princess Protea.

It all happened very quickly after that. The Blueberry Muffins were registered as an official Red Hat Society chapter, Cyndie returned to Worthing from New Zealand and the first members started to be recruited. Cyndie, Judy, Lesley (later to become Mistress Cromwell, the anti-Parliamentarian) and Cyndie's Mum, Betty, later to become Lady Betty Mistress of the Robes had a 'gathering' on 9 May at the Patching Palace and the ideas started to roll.

Monetary matters, programme of events, venues, matters of attire, royal titles and recruitment of members were discussed and the Blueberry Muffins 'took off'

Very quickly word got round and on 16 May the first 'event' was held at Patching Palace to welcome prospective members. Cyndie, Judy and Lesley introduced themselves and gave an overview of the Red Hat Society and the Blueberry Muffin chapter to around 15 ladies who graciously attended

You may be wondering how on earth the name Blueberry Muffins was chosen ? Well best to ask Her Royal Hattiness Queen Cyndie re this one. Think just a moment of sheer panic and the first notion that came into her head!
